Not every creative moment needs a full afternoon or a perfectly set-up space – quick art ideas are just as valuable! Sometimes you’ve just got ten minutes while the kettle’s boiling, the kids are busy, or you’ve finally sat down for a breather.

These quick ideas are all about making the most of those small pockets of time. No big prep, no pressure to finish anything, just simple ways to keep your creativity ticking along, one little moment at a time.

Easy flower drawing

Watercolour flower painting with black linework

Project: Watercolour Flowers for Beginners

A quick floral sketch is a colourful way to ease into creating, especially if you’ve got a few minutes at the table. Start with loose watercolour shapes, then add simple pen lines once they dry.

You don’t need to plan it out, just let the shapes form naturally and the colours mix on the page. Over time, these little artworks can turn into a whole sketchbook of soft, expressive studies.

Fashion sketches

This is a great one for when you want something a bit bold but still quick. Use some gouache, ink, or even watercolour to sketch simple figures, focusing on the movement of their clothing rather than the details.

You can do one figure in a few minutes or fill a page with different poses. It’s less about accuracy and more about capturing a feeling, style, or posture.

Easy acrylic pour

2 small canvases with colourful pour paint on them

Project: How to get the most out of SuperCell Paints

If you’ve got a few small canvases or boards handy, acrylic pour art can be surprisingly doable in a short window. Just layer up your paints in a cup, pour, then tilt or blow with a straw to help your colours mingle.

It’s a nice reminder that even painting can be done in a time pinch. You can set it up, step away, and come back later to see how it dried.

Neighbourhood sketch

If you’re out and about or even just sitting near a window, take a minute to sketch what you see. A house, some trees, or the corner of your street.

It doesn’t need to be super detailed. These quick observations help build confidence over time, and they’re easy to slot into a busy day. Build up a whole sketch book as a kind of journal for your daily life.

Continuous line drawing

Continuous line drawing of sunset landscape

Project: Continuous Line Landscape

This one uses a different part of the brain, but in a fun way. Using one continuous line, sketch out a simple landscape with a horizon, sun, and flowing shapes. You’re going to want to lift your pen off the page… but resist! Sometimes a challenge is fun.

It’s quick, calming, and easy to fit in when your mind feels busy. You can keep it minimal or go back later and add colour if you have more time.

Travel drawing

If you’ve got a few extra minutes while waiting at the bus stop, out at a restaurant, or on a walk, a small sketchbook is your best buddy. Doodle the land and buildings around you to remember them – it can be more meaningful than a photo.

These little drawings become a record of places you’ve been, even if they only took a few minutes to create.

Easy portrait drawing

Continuous line portrait of person and cup

Project: Continuous Line Portrait

Just like the continuous line landscape, this portrait was done without lifting the pen. Grab a mirror and draw yourself, or get up a pic of your best friend, parents, kids, or anyone you want to sketch.

Because the details are taken away, it takes the pressure off getting things “perfect” and turns it into more of a playful exercise. Great for a quick reset in the middle of the day.

It’s easy to feel like you need a big block of time to be creative, but small moments add up more than you think. Even ten minutes here and there can help you get creative without it feeling like another thing on your to-do list.

Keep it simple, keep it light, and let it fit into your day where it can!
