Let’s get to know Australian artist Nicole Macey from @thelittlecrafthouseaus. She’s passionate about all kinds of arts and crafts, especially polymer clay. We asked Nicole a bunch of questions to get to know her and her creative interests – find out more down below.
We’re obsessed with your polymer earrings! What drew you to clay?

So many things! I love the bright colours, the texture and the possibilities. I love that the scraps are just as useful and beautiful as the project and if you create something you don’t vibe with, you can reuse the clay to create something else – so there is minimal wastage.
How did you get into creating?
I have always been a creative person – ever since I was little I’ve always had some sort of crafty project on the go!
Aside from making and sharing your creative projects, what other hobbies do you enjoy?

I love a good op shopping adventure! You never know what treasures you may find! I have also recently got into a bit of gardening. I’ve started a veggie patch that Im hoping will survive and produce me some yummy foods!
Do you have a creative family?
I do! My parents are both very creative with drawing, artwork, sewing and woodwork. And the creativity has flowed through into my 3 kids too. They all spend their weekends tinkering around with all sorts of creative projects.
Do you have any advice for people who want to give creating a go but don’t know where to start?

Don’t keep putting it off! Start small - you don’t want to overwhelm yourself. Being creative and enjoying the process is more important than perfection.
What’s something you’re proud of, that you don’t often get to talk about?
I have over 100,000 subscribers on my Youtube Channel with my craft tutorials. It took me a lot of hard work and persistence to get it there – but it is fun and something I enjoy doing.
Can you tell us about a time you hit a roadblock while creating and how you overcame it?

I hit roadblocks all the time! I often have way too many ideas floating around in my head and I can’t settle on what to do or how to do it! I find just taking a break and doing something completely different really helps. Playing with my dogs, pottering in the garden, flicking through some crafty magazines or books can generally help me to reset and get focused again.
If your personality was a song, what genre would it be?
Haha. I would probably be a really daggy pop song.
Tell us your dream creative set-up: location, décor, music – the works!

My dream space would be organised! I would love to be able to find what I am looking for! It would have a never ending supply of craft supplies and anything new that I happened to need would magically appear. I would have the view of the beach out one window and the view of the bush out the other. I would have a coffee machine and chocolate supply always within arms reach.
