Decoupage stool
Step 1: Disassemble the stool
- Begin by removing the Allen screw at the bottom of the stool’s main threaded shaft
- Use a Philips head screwdriver to remove the 4 screws holding the bottom plate of the seat
- Set the screws and parts aside for reassembly later
Step 2: Decoupage the seat
- Apply a consistent coat of Deco Pudge over the top of the seat
- Most wood surfaces will be fine to apply right away, but if they're thickly varnish, lightly sand first for better adhesion
- Carefully lay your chosen print over the layer of Deco Pudge. If your print is in pieces, align them next to each other to cover the seat
- Smooth out any air pockets between the print and the Deco Pudge
- Use a hobby knife to cut away the excess paper around the seat’s edges
Step 3: Decoupage the top of the stool
- While the seat dries, repeat the same decoupaging process on the top of the stool (where the seat screws into the legs)
- Cut away excess print around and metal components to fit the stool’s structure
Step 4: Decoupage the underside of the seat
- Once the top of the seat is dry, turn it face down and remove the bottom plate by unscrewing the 4 screws
- Apply Deco Pudge to the underside of the seat and lay down another print
- Cut off any excess paper around the bottom of the seat
- Allow it to dry, then reattach the bottom plate using the 4 screws
Step 5: Decorating the stool
- To add more interest, cut out smaller details like flowers or other patterns from your print and apply them to the seat
- Seal everything with another coat of Deco Pudge over the entire surface
Step 6: Decoupage legs and gusset
- The stool has a gusset plate halfway down (it looks like a little shelf!)
- Apply Deco Pudge to this area and cover it with a print
- Cut the paper away from the metal components to maintain the stool's structure
- Once everything is dry, reinsert the seat into the legs and make sure everything is secure
