Ombre ocean painting with Sand Texture Medium

How to use painter’s tape

-    Tape around the edge of your board to create a neat border

-    Press down firmly so paint doesn’t seep under the edges

-    If you’d prefer a free edge, skip the tape and paint right to the sides

Ocean colour

-    Squeeze Phthalo Blue onto your palette and mix in a scoop of sand texture medium

-    Spread the textured blue across the top fifth of your board

-    Apply a thick, even layer so you can carve soft wave shapes later

-    Focus on enjoying the process – don’t worry about perfection

Ombre blend

-    Add Titanium White to your blue mix to create a lighter shade

-    Apply this colour to the next section down and gently blend into the first

-    Keep both shades visible for a nice soft gradient

-    Continue lightening and layering until you reach about three-fifths down the board

-    You should start to see a smooth ocean-like transition

Painting sand

-    Mix Raw Sienna, Titanium White, and sand texture medium together

-    Adjust until you like the tone, adding white to lighten or Raw Sienna to warm it up

-    Spread this mix across the bottom section of your board where the sand meets the water

-    Lightly swipe the palette knife to blend the edge between sand and ocean

-    Wipe the knife clean as you go to keep the transition soft and natural

Finishing touches

-    If you used tape, carefully peel it off while the paint is still slightly wet

-    Leave your artwork to dry completely

-    Once dry, display your new textured ombre ocean scene and admire the coastal vibes

And just like that, your ocean ombre masterpiece is all done. You can add extra touches by gluing on some shells, mixing in some glitter, or experimenting with varnish. The sky’s the limit! ☁️
